CARLINGFORD Recap/ Review

Postby BubbaSquash » 23 Oct 2014, 19:18

Hey Guys,

As some of you know and most of you might not know I am the clubs Public Relations Officer (PRO for short). My real name is................ William Gaffney. I will be writing an article for the club based on what we do, how much fun we have and most importantly embarrassing moments and Bloopers.

So the Carlingford trip. I was unable to attend so I would like to ask ye a few questions about the trip. It would be brilliant if ye could tell me in the thread ( or via private message if its really good!!).

Example questions to answer;

The weather......... were Irish this is always a good topic.

The bikes?

The journey up, was there singing, chatting piss-taking, mockery or silence.

The place ye stayed, was there pillow fights or uncomfortable mattresses.

Most importantly what were the trails like? What did ye think of them?
Were the steep? wet? Narly!!!???

Also if you got any pictures of the scenery of of people or both please post them on the thread as well.

it would be really helpful guys if ye could give me a response. Just even answer one or two questions would brilliant.

Thanks very much!!

William.

Here is a modified copy of a review I made on a french forum. Translate of course :p

Friday

We arrived at Carlingford around 10:00-11:00 PM, therefore, no cycling this day.
Fortunately, there was a pub a just a stone's throw from the hostel, good opportunity to share a pint alltogether :

Saturday

Good surprise going out of the bed, wonderful weather :

This day, we went to Upper Ballymakellett!
Little break after the first climbing, now everyone is warmed up :

Image

First time I was riding with such a beautiful landscape. Here we can see a sea of fog :

The other side of the hill we could see Carlingford bay.

After that, first downhill. After a few meters, first fall. The rider is ok but we can't say the same from the bike. The spin stopd here for him :

At the end of the downhill little lunch break with a always a really good weather :

After that we went inside a forest. I don't have any good pictures here. Some technical trail, lots of stones and roots, and even some good jump for the fearless.

Sunday

After a short night (yes, we went to a pub, again ;) ), we left Carlingford for Castlewellan Forest Park in Northern Ireland.
Don't have a lot of pictures of this day, landscape were less astounishing. The trails were, for the most, single track inside the forest. Really good downhill parts with a lot of little drops and some little jumps. Once again we had a problem with a bike, but this time it was a derailleur I think. Here is the only good picture of a landscape I have from this day :

Image

Before leaving we saw a beautiful and misterious moutain bike with 3 wheels :

That's about it. A lot of useless stuff but I hope you will be able to find a few usefull information for your article. If you want all the pictures are here (with some panoramic also) :
